My PhD research with Southern Cross University is looking at unknowns within the mangrove carbon cycle. My interests and research questions are aimed at understanding the role mangroves play as buffers of acidification within the coastal ocean and also the role of mangrove forests as a potential negative feedback to climate change. To address these questions I will look at exports of alkalinity from mangrove forests to the coastal ocean and investigate the drivers of carbon burial within mangrove forests over long time scales. Fortunately, in order to answer questions on a global scale I will need to conduct my research over as much of the globe as possible.
