Coastal/ocean acidification

Around 30% of the carbon dioxide released to the atmosphere through fossil fuel burning is absorbed by the oceans. This process leads to a reduction in the pH of the ocean, a process termed “ocean acidification”. The barefoot biogeochemistry group is undertaking a range of research on the consequences of ocean acidification, and the importance of natural processes in buffering this effect.
